New Year, New staff

A positive start to the year comes in two new, enthusiastic members to the staff team!

Both Ruth Moss and Emily Coleman have knowledge backgrounds and will have a brilliant impact to reach CRT goals.

Ruth Moss

Ruth is the new Wildlife Monitoring Officer and in charge of organising volunteering on our Herefordshire properties. Growing up on a farm, her understanding of how farming can positively impact wildlife is in her blood. It led her to undertake a degree in 'International Wildlife Biology' with an interesting dissertation project!

"I feel very fortunate and grateful to be joining the Countryside Restoration Trust. Especially in a role which combines my agricultural interests, my upbringing, and my passion for wildlife conservation."

We look forward to seeing how she applies her knowledge to our Herefordshire properties.

Emily Coleman

We also welcome Emily as the Project Officer: Mink Control for Waterlife Recovery East. Her 15-month contract with CRT has been funded Green Recovery Challenge Fund as part of the Waterlife Recovery East project.

Emily has been passionate about the environment and conservation. Her degree in Ecology has led her to work for several organisations including a voluntary position with the Zoological Society of London, conducting field research in Ghana. She has also worked with the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) for eight years. More recently, Emily worked as a field surveyor for an ecological consultancy, carrying out surveys for various protected species, particularly bats, reptiles and dormice.

"I am really delighted to now be with the CRT and the mink project, in a role through which I can make a truly significant, position contribution to wildlife conservation in the UK. It will be a challenge and take a lot of hard work, but it's just brilliant!"

Two new residents have made their home at Bere Marsh Farm in Dorset and are already squealing with excitement and busy rootling around.

What We Do

The CRT promotes nature-friendly farming to help reverse biodiversity decline and combat climate change. We believe nature is integral to good farming and we protect, promote and regenerate our land and all life on it. We put our philosophy into practice on over 2,000 acres of working farms, small-holdings and woodland across England.
Slow-worms – the gardener’s best friend

The UK has 6 native reptile species including the curious slow-worm (Anguis fragilis). Although serpent-like in appearance, slow-worms are in fact limbless lizards and an amazing example of de-evolution.
