Harold’s Grove might be small, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in beauty and history.

The eight acre woodland in Essex was given to the CRT by Deed of Gift from Gerald Sanctuary in March 2004. But the history goes much further back than that!

The wood was once owned by Kind Harold of England and was part of a great swathe of woodland of which Epping Forest is the largest surviving remnant. The previous owner gave his name to it, and we hope we are looking after our regal land as well as its previous owner.

The management and conservation of the wood is completed by some wonderful volunteers, although all activities are ‘light touch’ and we are led by the wildlife. It is a lovely place to spend an afternoon escaping the ‘real world’ and imagining you are royalty with your own woodland.
