Enjoy a morning of floral creativity, learning how to use stencils to design and print onto your own fabric tote bag to keep.

We are delighted to welcome Melanie Ward to lead this inspiring workshop, which will be held in the charming rustic setting of our Threshing Barn at Bere Marsh Farm.

Stencil printing is an easy to learn mindful technique that allows for decorating unique home accessories and handmade gifts. All materials will be provided to use on the day, including pre-mixed fabric paints and bespoke daisy & meadow flower stencils designed by Melanie.

Perfect for beginners, the session will guide you through the essential methods for achieving great stencilling results on both paper and fabric. With step-by-step instructions and ample guidance, you'll have plenty of time to hone your skills and build your confidence in this relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere.

People who attend these workshops find themselves amazed by what they accomplish, so you can look forward to creating your own version of this pretty cotton tote bag (pictured above), ideal for shopping or days out.

As well as all materials being supplied, aprons will be available on the day, but best to wear clothes you are happy to get mucky.

About Melanie Ward

"Based in Dorset in the south of England, I’m a Stencil printing artist & teacher, passionate about helping people unlock their own creativity.

Whether you prefer clear guidance or the freedom to make your own creative decisions, my workshops are relaxing, informative & great fun.

Using my uniquely designed collection of botanical stencils inspired by nature and the countryside, you’ll be amazed by what your own hands can create.

So, how did I get started?

From first setting eyes on a beautiful linen and embroidered project in my Granny’s sewing box as a child, my love affair with all things textile and creative started.

With the opportunity to study art & design at college in the 80’s, I then set up my own studio as a craft maker before moving into the world of commercial retail design for several decades.

I now feel that I have come a full 360 degrees back to my original joy for hands-on making, sharing my wealth of knowledge with those eager to explore the joys of craft. Passionate about helping people gain the pleasure and benefits of crafting, I ensure that the standard of my teaching, stencil kits and workshop experiences are high.

In today's digital age, with constant screen interaction and life stresses, returning to mindful, relaxing activities is crucial for mental wellbeing and happiness."

My inspiration and the design process...

Countryside walks with my camera are the starting point, gathering visual references from verges and hedgerows. I gain enormous pleasure from observing changes in the seasons, the shift in colours, shapes and form. These photos and foraged treasures fuel my ideas for workshop projects and new stencil designs.

Once home, the design process involves sketching and drawing shapes into stylized forms, capturing the very essence of wild flowers, seed heads, leaves and plants. Building upon their inherent beauty, always with paint and thread in mind.

The hours spent in my garden studio hand-cutting prototype stencils, testing, redrawing and perfecting ensures that my designs coordinate beautifully, giving you the best opportunity to create pleasing and professional looking results.
